HONOUR YOUR PARENTS

BIBLE TEXT: EPHESIANS 6:1-3

MEMORY VERSE: "Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise" (EPHESIANS 6:1-2).

Children are critical to families as they occupy special places in the hearts of their parents. Parents spend a lot of time planning and executing plans that they feel will give their children the best in all endeavours. They also have the responsibility to train their children by setting standards and enforcing them. They go through the pains of paying school fees, and providing shelter, clothing and food for the children. The children are in turn to respect and honour their parents because of their labours on them. Unfortunately, many adolescents or teenagers do not honour their parents, contrary to the position of the Bible.

The Scripture commands expressly that we should honour our parents. This is a commandment with a promise of longevity attached to it. Youths usually pray for long life, and it is in line with the will of God. However, stubbornness and disobedience to parents may threaten an answer to such prayers. If you have issues with your parents, talk them over with them, because God wants you to be at peace with them. Make honouring your parents a lifestyle.

QUOTE: A commandment with a promise.

CHALLENGE: Obedience brings blessings.

PRAYER: Lord, grant me the grace to honour my parents always.
