YOU CAN'T HIDE FROM GOD

MEMORISE

     This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it (John 12:6).

READ 

John 12:4-7

[4]. But one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, who would betray Him, said, 

[5]. “Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” 

[6]. This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it.

[7]. But Jesus said, “Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of My burial.

EXPOSITION

        A lot of us try to cover our true wicked/corrupt natures with though very thin layers of pre-planned, dramatic acts of Christliness or may be churchiness. In our text today, Judas tried in vain to hide his true person and intention from the Lord. You can only cover up for people, not God (Read Psa. 139:1ff). No matter how you try to hide from the Lord, the more you discover that you can hardly run away from Him. It is characteristic of a pathological liar to want to cover a lie with other lies, but at the end of the day, the lies are all busted.

       Judas was highly hypocritical, like some of us. Anyone hearing his seemingly logical argument in vv. 4,5 could have easily taken it for sheer sincerity. There are lots of people like that in churches and the world today-very dangerous, but with deep subtlety. 1 Tim. 3:5 pictures them. Hope you aren't one of them-very dubious and dangerous?

       His real intention for venting v. 5 is busted in v. 6. What are your masked intentions for doing what you do at home, in Church, in your workplace, in politics, and the society? You can't hide it for long! Verse 6 shows that Christ is never in the dark as to our intentions (cf. lieb. 4:12.13), though He is keeping mute as if He does not know. The Omnipresent and Omniscient cannot be fooled (Gal. 6:7ff). Stop that hypocrisy! Judas' end is nothing to be desired!

PRAYER POINTS 

1. Repent, NOW, of every ulterior motive in your heart for working for God and among His people.

2. Ask for God's grace to be sincere in your worship and stewardship before God.

3. Pray for CAC Akilling Region, our father in the Lord, the Regional Superintendent, and other officers at the various levels as led by the Spirit of God.
