TOPIC: BEWARE OF THE GOSPEL YOU ACCEPT

BIBLE READING:

1 TIMOTHY 1:3-6

3 As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine, 4 Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do. 5 Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: 6 From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;

KEY VERSE:

Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience and of faith unfeigned. 1 Timothy 1:5

MEDITATION:

A member of the church I attend planted some cassava stems in the open space in the compound she lives with other tenants. Two of the tenants insisted that she should uproot the cassava stems since according to them, their pastor exhorted them that planting cassava in a compound brings bad luck to all the occupants. At the onset of the first rains, she planted maize and the same fellow occupants had yet another complaint - “destinies are unfulfilled when maize is planted in a living compound.” There are some believers who firmly posit that particular persons and families in their communities are filled with demons and must be avoided like plague! Yet, there are some who are so demon conscious that a lizard innocently moving on their fence in their village compound may imply there is some witchcraft spirit in operation. These strange mindsets are real, and yet have no place in the bible.

Sometimes, Christianity becomes confusing to many, especially those whose heart are simple, but unfortunately ignorant, when we leave the basics of the Christian faith and start pursuing non-essentials that many times magnify the power of Satan over the mighty name of Jesus. Paul, in writing to Timothy encouraged him not to waste time with those arguing over genealogies and questions that will only warm the brain and not edify the heart. The summary of Christianity is, “love that comes from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith”.

Are you spreading fear or building the faith of fellow believers?

PRAYER:

Father Lord, deliver your church from falsehood and false brethren.
