TOPIC: FORGOTTEN MEMORY

BIBLE READING:

1 Samuel 1:1-2,4-7,10-12,17-20

MEDITATION:

The story of Hannah in the bible is a familiar one to many. She was known to be a barren woman. Her husband Elkanah had another wife called Peninnah who had children. Hannah had none. The scripture records that Peninnah mocked Hannah, and very likely her children may have joined in the mockery party! (vs. 6). Hannah was in bitterness of soul, and it sent her to the place of prayer, and not to quarrelling or fighting with Peninnah or Elkanah.

As Hannah prayed intensely, Eli the prophet marked her mouth and asked her what the matter was. She nicely explained and the man of God affirmed her prayers (vs. 17). God remembered Hannah and she had a baby she named Samuel. Samuel was brought to the house of the Lord in Shiloh and there served the Lord.

You will notice in this narrative in scripture that after the mockery of Hannah by Peninnah and her children, there was no single further mention of any of them in bible. Their memory was forgotten. Those who derive pleasure in causing anguish, pain, cry and sorrow never have a blessed memory in life. Samuel, the offspring of the mocked Hannah became the last Judge in Israel and one of the most remembered and revered Prophets and Priests in Israel.

You must be careful how you react to the misfortune and pains of others around you. You may be paving the way for a forgotten memory for you and your offspring.
