LONG TERM MEMORY

TEXT: JOSHUA 1:5-9

MEMORY VERSE: "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein..." (JOSHUA 1:8a).

Long term memory stores information for a long time. When we are exposed to information, and we pay attention, the information will be stored in short term memory at first instance; but with more rehearsal, the information can now move to our long term memory. To improve your memory, it is important for you to speed up the process of sharpening your brain's ability to process what you see, sense and hear. Cognitive Scientists believe that the storage capacity of long term memory is unending.

Information requires continuous learning and repetition to become permanently stored. Once stored, it can last a long time and be retrieved by a trigger. Your long term memory can help in transfer of knowledge to help you learn and understand other similar concepts. Therefore, as students, you are advised to use effective study techniques to make learning permanent by using the R's technique of Reading, Repeating, Reviewing, Re-writing, and Re-doing. Sharpen your memory capacity by rehearsing Bible passages continuously for excellence. Remember: "The memory of the just is blessed..." (Proverbs 10:7a). Engage your brain with useful and godly information.

QUOTE: Sharpen your memory capacity.

CHALLENGE: Why do you not sharpen your brain power?

PRAYER: Lord, help me to sharpen my brain power.
